Karim Mostafa Benzema (born 19 December 1987) is a French international footballer who plays for Spanish club Real Madrid inLa Liga and the French national football team. He primarily plays as a striker whose influence can extend out to the wings and is known for his technical ability, powerful style of play, and vast goal-scoring ability.^[3] He is described as an "immensely-talented striker" who is "strong and powerful" and "a potent finisher from inside the box".^[4]

Benzema was born in the city of Lyon and began his football career with local club Bron Terraillon. In 1996, he joined the biggest club in the city, Olympique Lyonnais and, subsequently, came through the club's youth academy. Benzema made his professional debut in the 2004–05 season and appeared sporadically in his first three seasons as Lyon won three titles in that span. In the 2007–08 season, Benzema became a starter and had a breakthrough year scoring over 30 goals as Lyon won its seventh straight league title. For his performances, he was named the National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP) Ligue 1 Player of the Year and named to the organization's Team of the Year. Benzema was also the league's top scorer and given the Bravo Award by Italian magazineGuerin Sportivo. After another season at Lyon, in July 2009, Benzema moved to Spanish team Real Madrid in a transfer fee worth over €35 million ($50 million), and signed a six year contract.^[5] After struggling to establish himself in his debut season with the club, in the ensuing two seasons, Benzema reached prominence scoring 32 goals en route to helping Real Madrid win the Copa del Rey in 2011 and the 2011–12 edition of La Liga. He has been named French Player of the Year twice for his performances in 2011 and 2012.^[6]

Benzema is a former French youth international and has represented his nation from under-17 level onwards. Prior to playing for thesenior team, he played on the under-17 team that won the 2004 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship. Benzema made his senior international debut in March 2007 in a friendly match against Austria, scoring in a 1–0 win. Benzema has earned over 65 caps and represented France at three major international tournaments; the 2008 and 2012 editions of the UEFA European Football Championship and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Iker Casillas Fernández (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈiker kaˈsiʎas ferˈnandeθ]; born 20 May 1981) is a Spanish football goalkeeperwho plays for and captains both La Liga club Real Madrid and the Spanish national team. In 2008 he was the captain of the Spanish team that won their first European Championship in 44 years, the Spanish team that went on to win Spain's first World Cup (a tournament in which he won the Golden Glove and known as Yashin Award) and the 2012 European Championship.

Considered to be one of the finest goalkeepers of his generation,^[3][4][5] Casillas was nominated for the European Footballer of the Year award in 2008, ranking fourth overall.^[6] At the end of 2012 he was voted into the UEFA Team of the Year for the sixth consecutive time. As of 2011 Casillas is one of a very select group of players who have won all major club and national championship titles. In 2010, he was awarded with the Sports Prince of Asturias Award. On 19 October 2010, Casillas became the goalkeeper with most appearances of all time in the UEFA Champions League and in November 2011, he became the most capped player of all time for the Spanish national team.^[7] Currently, he has amassed a combined total of 155 caps for his country. Luis Alberto Suárez Díaz (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈlwis ˈswaɾes]; born 24 January 1987) is a Uruguayan footballer who plays as aforward for Premier League club Liverpool and the Uruguayan national team.

In 2006, Suárez moved to the Netherlands to play for Groningen in the Eredivisie. Suárez transferred to Ajax in 2007. In 2008–09he was named Ajax Player of the Year. The following year, he was made the club captain, became the league's top scorer with 35 goals in 33 games, and was named Dutch Footballer of the Year. He scored 49 goals in all competitions and Ajax won the KNVB Cup. In the 2010–11 season, he scored his one hundredth Ajax goal, joining a group of players including Johan Cruyff, Marco van Basten and Dennis Bergkamp in doing so.

In January 2011, Suárez transferred to Liverpool for €26.5 million (£22.8 million). During his partial season at Liverpool, Suárez helped the club move from twelfth in the league in mid-January to finish sixth at the end of the season. In February 2012, Suárez won his first trophy with Liverpool, as they won the Football League Cup. On 22 March 2014, he scored his sixth Premier League hat-trick for the club, making him the most frequent scorer of hat-tricks in Premier League history. On 27 April 2014 he won thePFA Players' Player of the Year award, becoming the first non-European to win the award.^[2] Suárez also won the FWA Footballer of the Year, and was named in the 2013-14 PFA Team of the Year. As the Premier League's top scorer with 31 goals he won thePremier League Golden Boot, and shared the European Golden Shoe with Cristiano Ronaldo.^[3] He was named Europe's most influential football player in the 2013-14 season of the top 5 European leagues in the "Bloomberg Top 50 Power List".^[4][5]

Suárez represented Uruguay in the 2007 U-20 World Cup. In the 2010 World Cup, he played an important role in Uruguay's fourth place finish and scored three goals, and infamously blocked an extra time goalbound header with his hands during the quarter finals against Ghana. At the 2011 Copa América, Suárez scored four goals for Uruguay as they won a record fifteenth Copa América and was named Player of the Tournament.^[6] On 23 June 2013, he became Uruguay's all-time record goalscorer with 35 goals. By the age of 21, Messi had received Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year nominations. The following year, in 2009, he won his first Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year awards. He followed this up by winning the inaugural FIFA Ballon d'Or in2010, and then again in 2011 and 2012. He also won the 2010–11 UEFA Best Player in Europe Award. Ronaldo began his career as a youth player for Andorinha, where he played for 2 years, before moving to C.D. Nacional. In 1997, he made a move to Portuguese giants Sporting Clube de Portugal. Ronaldo caught the attention of Manchester Unitedmanager Alex Ferguson, who signed him for £12.2 million (€15 million) in 2003. In 2004, Ronaldo won his first club honour, theFA Cup.

In 2007, Ronaldo was the first player in England to win all 4 main PFA and FWA awards. Ronaldo is the first top European league player to reach 40 goals in a single season in two consecutive years, fastest Real Madrid player to reach 100 league goals, and the first player to score against every team in a single season in La Liga.^[15] He holds the record for most goals scored in a season for Real Madrid. In January 2014, Ronaldo scored his 400th career goal.^[16] After spending his first year at Madrid wearing the number 9 shirt, he began wearing the number 7 again following the departure of long-serving striker Raúl. Ronaldo is a Portuguese international and made his debut in August 2003. He has been capped over 100 times and isPortugal's top goalscorer of all time. With Portugal he has participated in 5 major tournaments; UEFA Euro 2004, the 2006 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2008, the 2010 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2012. He scored his first international goal in the opening game of Euro 2004 against Greece, in addition to helping Portugal reach the final. Popularly dubbed "the phenomenon", he is considered by experts and fans to be one of the greatest football players of all time.^[3][4] He is one of only three men to have won the FIFA World Player of the Year award three times or more, along with Zinedine Zidane and Lionel Messi. He won his first Ballon d'Or in 1997 and won the award again in 2002.

Considered by many the most complete striker in the past thirty years, in 2007 he was named in the best starting eleven of all-time by France Football and was named in the FIFA 100, a list of the greatest footballers compiled by Pelé. He was inducted Into theBrazilian Football Museum Hall of Fame in 2006. In February 2011, Ronaldo announced his retirement from football.^[5]

Ronaldo played for Brazil in 98 matches, scoring 62 goals, and is the second highest goalscorer for his national team. Aged 17, he was a part of the Brazilian squad that won the 1994 FIFA World Cup. At the 1998 World Cup he helped Brazil reach the final and won the Golden Ball for player of the tournament. He won a second World Cup in 2002 where he scored twice in the final, and received the Golden Boot as top goalscorer. During the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Ronaldo became the highest goalscorer in World Cup history with 15, surpassing Gerd Müller's previous record of 14.

Having suffered a string of serious injuries throughout his career, Ronaldo retired on 14 February 2011, citing pain andhypothyroidism as the reasons for his premature retirement.^[6] In January 2013 he was named one of the six Ambassadors of the2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the others being Amarildo, Bebeto, Carlos Alberto Torres, Marta and Mario Zagallo.
